Does your dishwasher stink? Here’s what you should do

There’s nothing better than a clean kitchen at the end of a meal and we can often thank our dishwasher for helping out!  However, just because dishwashers clean the dishes, it doesn’t mean they clean themselves! To rid dishwasher stink follow our simple cleaning tips.

Here’s how to clean your dishwasher:

Clean the filters

Most dishwashers have filters, which prevent the drains from getting clogged. These are the most common cause of nasty odours as the filters catch food particles, which quickly create a build up of bacteria! Remove the drain filter and give it a good scrub with soap and hot water. Ensure it is free of debris and then reinsert it back into the dishwasher.

Clean the inside of the dishwasher

Over time grime from dirty dishes accumulates on the inside of the dishwasher. Wipe down the insides of the dishwasher, including the top, bottom, sides and door. Remove the wracks and wash them with hot water and soap. Don’t forget to wipe down the door seals!

Rinse the dishwasher with vinegar and baking soda

Vinegar is known for its superior anti bacterial properties. Put a cup of white vinegar in the top rack of the dishwasher and run on a hot cycle. Once complete, sprinkle baking soda along the bottom and repeat the rinse cycle. This should leave your dishwasher smelling fresh and looking squeaky-clean!

When to clean your dishwasher

  • Every couple of week give your empty dishwasher a rinse.
  • Every month clean the filters and inside of your dishwasher thoroughly.

An unclean dishwasher ultimately means unclean dishes, despite how they clean they may look, nasty bacteria is likely lurking.

Keep on top of your clean dishwasher, and eliminate the stink!
