Does your dishwasher stink? 3 tips to get rid of the smell!

Nothing makes your dishes feel dirtier than a smelly dishwasher. If your dishwasher has a stink that is anything short of squeaky clean, it needs attention and some TLC ASAP!

Dishwasher stink? 3 tips to get rid of the smell

1. Scrape and rinse.

Plates, pots and pans should be scraped and rinsed before being put in the dishwasher to remove any excess food and debris. If they are placed in the dishwasher without being pre-cleaned, all of these seemingly small food particles will build up in pipes, filters, nooks, and crannies of the dishwasher, causing bacteria to grow and giving off an almighty stench!

2.     Regularly scrub.

Your dishwasher needs cleaning regularly to be able to clean your dishes effectively! The filter can be removed to be cleaned with a scrubbing brush and hot soapy water then clean the filter, spray arm, racks, sides, seals, and door.

3.     Regularly deep clean.

Regularly run the dishwasher on empty, on the hottest temperature with a cup of vinegar inside and bicarb sprinkled on the floor. This will disinfect the dishwasher and give the pipes a good clean.

Prevention combined with regular cleaning should be enough to banish bad odours and leave your dishwasher smelling fresh. If you continue to notice a persistent pong that you can’t seem to shift, you may need to do some further investigating or call in the help of a professional such as Bayside Appliance Repairs to see if there is a reason the unpleasant smell is lingering!
